September, 2011 Show Review
By Joyce Jackson

The SCBC’s September show was held in Allison Hall.  Both Barbeque and Hamburgers were served before the show.   Ice cream and ice cream floats were also available.  We had a nice crowd.  Everyone enjoyed the show and were talking about the festival next month.

Coushatte Ramblers

“The Coushatta Ranch Ramblers” was the first group to play.   Members are:  Jack Ritter-mandolin, Gary Elliott- Guitar Frank Witt- guitar, Dick Joiner-Dobro, Buddy Brockett-banjo and  Jim Lowery-bass. Some of the songs they did were:  Wild Bill Jones, In The Early Morning Rain, Mississippi, Standin On The Rock, Lorena, Rain Please Go Away, Love, Oh Love, Rock Salt And Nails, Redwood Hill, I’ll Fly Away (with audience participation) and Paradise.  Flat Stanley from Arkansas made  a guest appearance on stage. Good Show!

Old Potato Road

The next group to play was “Old Potato Road”.  Members are Howdy Barbor-dobro, Lou Lou Barbor-bass, Ray Casper-guitar, Adam Greer-banjo & guitar and Jeff Graham-fiddle.  They entertained us with Blue Night, John Hardy, Sweetheart Of The Pines, Wild Bill Jones, Topaz Moon, I Try To Be, Old Old House, Old Homeplace, The L & N Don’t Stop Here Anymore, Kentucky Borderline and for an encore song, they did Up This Hill and Down.  Another good show!

The Saltgrass  Band

The Saltgrass Band” was next in the line-up.  Members are Jimmy Fischer-banjo, John Brockett-guitar, Don Eggers-dobro, Timmy Fischer-mandolin and  Jim Lowery-bass. They started off their part of the show with True Blue, then on to Moundsville Pen, She Goes Walking Through My Memory, The Lighthouse, Julianne, Hard Game of Love, Take Me To The Mountains and Carolina In The Pines. Per request,   Jimmy and Buddy performed Ruben’s Train.  Jimmy told us about a book he purchased from Amazon.com.  The title is “Man of the House”. I don’t think he would recommend it.  Good job!

Third Rail
The last group to play was “Third Rail”.  This was their first time to play at Coushatta Ranch as a group.  Members are J. P. Shafer-mandolin, Suzanne Armstrong-bass and Adam Greer-banjo and guitar.  They did No Place To Hide, Angelina Baker, Footprints In The Snow, Sweet Blue Eyed Darling,  I’ve Seen Enough of What’s Behind Me, Lone Star State Of Mind, Bluebonnet Lane and  Long Way To Get Back Home.  The last song they did was an acapella gospel called “Some Day”.  They just learned the song and didn’t know the words, so they showed their technology savvy and uploaded the words to their smart phones, then performed it.  Another
fine job.
